Spinal Injury at Rehab Lab

Recovering from a spinal injury, whether from a fall, an accident, or a serious strain, takes a careful, staged plan. Push too hard too soon and you flare it up, do too little and you stiffen and weaken. The right path is steady, monitored progress that respects where the tissue is in healing.

We meet you at your current stage, protect what needs protecting, and progressively rebuild motion, strength, and confidence so you return to your life as fully as the injury allows.

Recovery that respects the timeline

Healing tissue follows a timeline you cannot rush, but you also cannot wait it out passively without losing strength and mobility. The skill is matching what we ask of your spine to what it can safely handle right now, and advancing as it earns it.

We coordinate with your medical team where appropriate, use gentle spinal care and modalities to keep you moving, and use tools like blood flow restriction to rebuild strength without heavy load while you heal.

How we approach spinal injury rehab

  • A careful exam and, where needed, coordination with your physician
  • Gentle, stage-appropriate hands-on care and laser
  • Graded strength and mobility work that advances safely
  • Clear milestones so you and we can see real progress

Spinal Injury questions

Is chiropractic care safe after a spinal injury?

It can be, with the right approach and the right timing, which is why a thorough exam comes first. We use gentle, low-force methods when needed and coordinate with your medical team. If your injury is outside what conservative care should handle, we will tell you and refer you.

How long does recovery take?

It depends entirely on the type and severity of the injury. We will give you a realistic picture after assessing you, and we track milestones so progress is something you can see, not just hope for.

What should I do in the first 48 hours after injuring my back?

Keep moving gently within comfort, avoid bed rest beyond a few hours at a time, and use ice or heat for comfort. Then get assessed. The instinct to lie still until it settles is the thing that turns a two-week problem into a two-month one.

Which symptoms after a back injury are an emergency?

Loss of bowel or bladder control, numbness in the saddle area between the legs, or rapidly progressing weakness in both legs. Those need an emergency department, not a chiropractic appointment. We screen for them and will send you straight on if any are present.

Will you adjust me right after an acute injury?

Only if it is appropriate. In the acute phase we often start with soft-tissue work, dry needling, gentle mobilization and laser to settle the tissue, and introduce specific adjustments once the guarding has eased. The technique fits the stage of injury.

Can an old spinal injury still be treated years later?

Frequently, yes. What persists after an old injury is usually lost motion and weakness that nobody rehabilitated, and both remain treatable long afterward. We would want to know what happened, what imaging exists and what has been tried.

Will I be able to return to my sport or my job?

In most cases, yes, and the plan is built around that goal rather than around comfort at rest. We use objective testing to decide readiness for demanding work or sport rather than relying on how it feels. Where a genuine restriction is permanent we will tell you honestly.
