Physical rehabilitation center
The half that makes treatment hold: progressive loading that rebuilds what the injury took, with the numbers to show it is working.
Rehab Lab runs physical rehabilitation alongside hands-on care at our Wauwatosa and Appleton clinics. This is the rebuilding phase: restoring strength, control and load tolerance after an injury, a surgery or a long layoff, so the relief created on the table survives contact with your actual life.
It is also the half most often skipped. An adjustment restores motion and gives your body no reason to keep it. Loading is what converts that into a change that lasts, which is why every plan here includes it rather than offering it as an upsell.

What our rehabilitation work draws on, available at both clinics:
Rebuilding after surgery or a long layoff
Muscle wastes quickly after a joint is immobilised, and the quadriceps after knee surgery is the clearest example: strength can fall away in days and take months to recover. The problem is that the joint often cannot tolerate the heavy loading that rebuilding normally requires, which is where blood flow restriction earns its place, giving a strength stimulus from light loads.
For muscles that will not switch on at all after an injury, a quadriceps that has gone quiet or a glute that stopped contributing, ARP neuro therapy targets the neurological side rather than the strength side. We work to whatever protocol your surgeon has set, and we will ask for it.
Why we measure instead of asking how it feels
Feeling recovered and being recovered are different states, and the gap between them is where people get hurt again. Force-plate and dynamometry testing shows left-to-right asymmetry, how much force each side actually produces, and how well you absorb landing, none of which a visual assessment can see.
It also makes the work easier to stick with. An asymmetry you can see on a number is more persuasive than a clinician’s opinion, and watching it close over six weeks is the clearest evidence that a programme is doing something.
How this differs from our other categories
This page is about the rebuilding phase. A fresh injury usually starts at the sports medicine clinic; a diagnosis you are unsure of starts with the sports medicine physician; persistent pain that has outlasted its injury belongs with pain management.
Most plans pass through here regardless of where they start, because the loading is what makes the rest hold.

Common questions about physical rehabilitation center
Is this the same as physical therapy?
The rehabilitation work overlaps heavily. The difference is that it sits in the same plan as the hands-on treatment rather than in a separate clinic, so the joint gets freed and loaded in the same visit. Our comparison of the two goes into it properly.
Do I need a referral or a surgeon’s protocol?
No referral is needed to book. If you are post-surgical, bring the protocol and we will work to it, and we will coordinate with the surgeon rather than around them. Tell us the procedure and the date at your first visit.
What if I have never trained before?
That is a common starting point and it changes very little. Early movements are usually unloaded and take a few minutes, and progression starts from what you can do rather than a standard programme. Nobody is asked to learn a barbell lift to fix their back.
How long until the strength comes back?
Movement quality often improves within a week or two, but genuine strength change takes roughly four to eight weeks of consistent work, because that is how connective tissue and neural drive actually adapt. Post-surgical timelines are longer and follow the surgeon’s protocol.
Can I do the programme at home?
Most of it, especially early on, where a floor, a wall and a band cover it. Later stages need loading, and you are welcome to do that in the gym space at either clinic with us rather than on your own.
What happens when the programme ends?
You get a maintenance plan you can run yourself, and you are discharged. That is the intent. Milestones are set at the first visit so you can see when you have hit them, rather than being booked indefinitely.
